June 23-24, 2017
Yonderville Music & Arts Festival is one of the DMV area’s newest festivals, and the man behind the magic is already making waves among the scene. Festival founder Max Stone took a few minutes of his time to speak with us here at Heady Entertainment about this new project. See what he had to say below!
How did the idea for Yonderville come about? Is there a significance to the name?
In short, Yonderville was created because Sugarcube had an opportunity to do something great for its local community, and we jumped at it. The long answer involves love, loss and the pursuit of happiness. Everything Sugarcube does with music is a response to the world around us; done in hopes that we have encouraged a more positive, loving and powerful human consciousness.
What types of events has Sugarcube Productions put on in the past? Will this one be similar or different?
Yonderville will be similar to the events we’ve hosted in the past. Sugarcube has hosted, co-hosted and co-promoted events ranging from EDM, Hip-Hop, Jam, Funk, Bluegrass and beyond. We love a wide range of music and want to be known as a company that provides fun, positive and memorable experiences regardless of the genre we’re promoting.
What is your mission for Yonderville?
Yonderville’s mission is to unite our local community and provide an experience that encourages positivity and well-being. We believe music can be used as a barrier between the constructive and destructive sides of life – so everything we do is done to illustrate that.
How will the Yonderville festival experience differ from other festivals? In short, what is it that makes Yonderville stand out?
One of the biggest differences between Yonderville & everyone else will be the property at Verdun Adventure Bound. Verdun is situated on a beautiful 60 acre property surrounded by rolling hills and deep woods. The property features a main stage amphitheatre, side stage pavilion, large pond and diverse camp sites. This event is also sanctioned by the Department of Tourism in Culpeper, VA so we won’t have issues with noise ordinances – a big deal for first year festivals.
How will the choice of location add value to the festival experience?
Yonderville is located less than 2 hours from Richmond, VA, Washington DC and Baltimore MD. We’re also Just over 3 hours from Philadelphia PA, 4 hours from Raleigh, NC and Pittsburg PA. Our proximity to larger markets makes Yonderville an easy and enjoyable drive no matter where your located in the DMV and beyond. Our location has also had an effect on the artists we’ve booked. We’re featuring three artists from North Carolina that have an amazing sound and we’re excited to make them accessible to the DMV markets. Artists such as Tyler Boone, See Water and Swim in the Wild.
You’ve just released your full lineup. Are there any artists that you personally are particularly excited for?
I’m definitely excited to see all of the artists we’ve booked but I’m particularly stoked to check out The Werks, Dirtwire, Congo Sanchez (Thievery Corp Drummer), Zach Deputy, ELM, the Southern Belles, Tyler Boone, Swim in the Wild and See Water. We’re fortunate to have such a diverse lineup of musicians and I can’t wait to see everyone come together.
What is your vision for future installments of Yonderville?
I’d like to make Yonderville more interactive, feature more live art installments and additional workshops. I’d also like to also expand our DJ Lounge and put more emphasis on that genre of music. Sugarcube started its life with electronic music, and I want to continue to push that sound through our live events.
